Noticeboards of Japan by Olivier Mignon & Nik van der Giesen
*Restocked
An artist book by Olivier Mignon, a Belgian curator who runs the "Keijiban" project based in Kanazawa, and Nick van der Giesen, a Dutch photographer and video artist also based in Kanazawa.
This book contains photographs of various Kijiban (bulletin boards) the two discovered in and around Kanazawa. Bulletin boards are so familiar to Japanese people that they are rarely noticed nowadays. The two's humorous and perceptive perspectives comedically illustrate the differentness, depth of flavor, and somewhat sadness of the message boards.
"They are everywhere. They can be found on almost every street of Japan, visibly standing on the sidewalk or hung on a wall. They take various and sometimes unexpected forms. They are as numerous as vending machines—no small task. They are meant to draw attention. And yet, they remain mostly unnoticed. This is the tragic fate of Japanese noticeboards, locally called keijiban (掲示板)."
