WHITE FLAG by Hanna Putz & Sophie Thun
A collection of works by Hanna Putz and Sophie Thun, artists based in Vienna and Berlin.
This book consists of photographs taken by friends Patz and Tun at the same time. Adjacent photos are cropped so that they have the same composition. In the history of photography, women have been treated as 'muses' and have been exposed to a one-sided gaze from photographers and viewers as objects to be seen. Just like their predecessors, who took advantage of the unconsciousness of society and individuals to express themselves, in this book, the two start a vivid counterattack that makes use of the characteristics of photography and books. When you turn the cover of "White Flag", in other words, the white flag, the direction of the lenses facing each other is overlapped with the subject = viewer = photographer. end up A sharp collection of works that refer to such unconscious gazes and repressions while having the pleasure of a game that involves the viewer.
