Light and Shadow by Daido Moriyama
Photobook by Japanese photographer Daido Moriyama.
Moriyama fell into a long-term slump after his extreme, radical approach to photography through “Provoke” (1968–1971) and “Farewell Photography” (1972). It took ten years for Moriyama to recover from that mental condition, and he considers that this photobook, “Light and Shadow,” was the turning point for the next step. This is considered one of the three most important photobooks by Moriyama, and the trajectory of his enthusiasm, collapse, and comeback can be seen clearly through those works.
