Hysteric Six: Takuma Nakahira
Photobook by Japanese photographer Takuma Nakahira.
This is the sixth photobook published by Japanese fashion brand “Hysteric Glamour”, and Takuma Nakahira’s first book in more than ten years since his previous work, “ADIEU A X” (1989). At this point, the style that characterized Nakahira’s later work—slide film that eliminates traces of the artist’s hand, well-focused images, and vertical framing—has been completed, giving the book the appearance of a botanical illustrated book. His solo exhibition, “Everyday Life: Takuma Nakahira Today,” was held in June 1997, and it consisted of such photographs. The poet and critic Shino Kuraishi, who later curated “Takuma Nakahira: Degree Zero—Yokohama” (2003) at the Yokohama Museum of Art, recalls the exhibition as an incident in the history of photography and a sharp examination of the history of photography itself. This is a major and important work that condenses the new territory that Nakahira has arrived at.
Limited to 600 copies, numbered.
