This book contains photographs taken on Adak Island, located at the southernmost tip of Alaska in the United States. Adak Island served as a frontline US military base during World War II and the Cold War from 1934 to 1997. Originally an uninhabited island facing the Bering Sea, it transformed into the fourth largest city in Alaska in just a few years during World War II, with 6,000 military personnel at its peak. and their families lived. In March 1997, the US Navy abandoned the island. Around 75 people still live on the island, along with the decaying military remains and houses.
