China Dream explores the divided identities of the second generation of expatriates who vacillate between their country of birth and their home country.

N, who was born to Chinese parents who immigrated to Canada from China via Hong Kong, conducted research on her home country from 2013 to 2017. Teresa's cultural knowledge of a country she had never lived in contrasted with the reality of a fluid country.

Her visits to cities in China offer a new perspective on her homeland, which is in the process of building its future by creating a new type of culture, reconstructing and reinterpreting its past. gave Historical monuments and structures destroyed during the Cultural Revolution are often reconstructed haphazardly as duplicates of the originals. The phrase “China Dream” is the title of a patriotic policy calendar that N found in a newspaper store, and was popularized by General Secretary Xi Jinping in 2013. Clearly, it alludes to the American Dream, an ideal that has been advocated since the founding of the United States of America, in which hard work and entrepreneurship lead individuals and nations to prosperity.
