A collection of works by Oslo-based artist Sveinn Fannar Jóhannsson.
This book contains photographs of various shapes and sizes of sinkholes (sinkholes that occur in limestone and dolomite areas when a cavity develops underground and the surface layer collapses) collected by Johansson. Inspired by the human urge to dominate nature and the idea that at any moment the earth might open its mouth and swallow us, Johansson creates a work that evokes a sense of division and disintegration. Despite the fact that the numerous images of man-made objects and natural phenomena colliding are coincidental, the contextualization of the images gives the impression of land art or Mono-ha works.
