Carrara by Aglaia Konrad
A collection of works published by "Roma Publications" in the Netherlands in 2011.
Throughout his career, Conrad has produced many works with the concept of "Sculptural Architecture". This work is a series of photographs taken during the production of the final chapter of "Concrete & Samples I, II, III", a trilogy of video works shot using 16mm film. In the Carrara region of Italy, known for its marble production, mountains are being cut down daily for quarrying. Consumption activities and destruction of nature in modern society, and the appearance of a magnificent quarry like a sculpture/architectural work are shown.
The 2011 winner of the Fernand Baudin Prize, an award that selects the most beautiful book of the year in Brussels and the Walloon region.
