(Signed) Index by Yukihito Kono
Artist book by Japanese photographer Yukihito Kono.
Until now, Kono has focused more on the post-shoot editing process and the materiality of the medium itself, rather than the act of photography itself. I made a work that was placed in the center.
"In recent years, the social conditions surrounding us have changed at an accelerating pace. Photography is one of the areas in which the nature of photography has undergone the most remarkable changes. The images are shot and shared every second, transcending their original context and becoming ubiquitous, to the extent that it is no longer necessary to reveal that we live in a world of images. So what is the role of the photographer today?Of course, we must reconsider the meaning and role of the word.We are so fascinated by the realm of images that before we know it, things are happening in front of us. With this work, Kono makes a complete change from his previous approach, reconsidering photography as an act of gazing at the landscape in front of him, and photographing as the result/trace of the process. The photographs were printed directly at home, bound, and put together as an artist book.”
