Phénomènes by Marina Gadonneix
A collection of works by French photographer Marina Gadonneix.
In the early 20th century, Norwegian physicist Kristan Birkeland conducted an experiment in his laboratory to reproduce the aurora borealis. Birkeland was also a successful inventor, with his portrait appearing on the Norwegian banknotes in 1994. This work is a series created by Getnex, inspired by his aurora experiments. What does it mean to artificially reproduce scientific and mysterious phenomena that occur in the natural world? Getnex regarded the laboratory as a miniature theater of the world, and conducted experiments to artificially generate unpredictable natural phenomena such as tornadoes, black holes, and earthquakes. This book is a record of that pattern, and a separate volume contains explanations and discussions on each phenomenon.
