SCAPES by John Divola

Skinnerboox

A collection of works by American visual artist John Divola.

This book contains three representative works created by the author in the 90s. Composed of twenty 18x18 inch black and white photographs, Four Landscapes explores the psychological positioning of nature from a cultural perspective. In "As Far As I Could Get," the camera is mounted on a tripod with a 10-second self-timer set, and the moment the shutter button is pressed, the artist himself runs at full speed into the distance. And finally, "Dogs Chaising My Car in The Desert" is a series of photographs of dogs running after Dibora in a car, as the title suggests. The city as a symbol of culture and nature as transcendental. Both photographs are highly grainy, and Diborah abstracts the boundaries between man and nature, subject and background. This book is a book that gives a new perspective to these representative series, which were originally published as individual works.
