The Wedding by Boris Mikhailov
A collection of works by Ukrainian photographer Boris Mikhailov.
Born in Kharkiv, Ukraine in 1938, Mikhailov studied electrical engineering at a technical university and worked as an engineer. He began teaching himself photography in the 1960s and is now recognized as one of the most important photographers of everyday life in post-Soviet society. Mikhailov coldly and cruelly portrays poverty and the homeless people living on the margins of Russia's new economic system without social support or care, but in this series, the pseudo-wedding of two homeless people takes place in the world around them. was held on stage and the scene was photographed. Mikhailov's photographs often express this kind of comedic relationship of complicity with his subjects, and their profound brightness further accentuates the absurdity of this tragic life.
