Daido Moriyama Photo Collection (1): Japan, A Photo Theater
Daido Moriyama's debut work, "にっぽん劇場写真帖" (Japan, A Photo Theater), was published in 1968. He worked as an assistant for photographers Takeji Iwamiya and Eikoh Hosoe after moving to Tokyo. This is a series of photographs, such as Several new editions have been published since then, but the black and white gravure printing that symbolizes the era and the non-narrative/fragmentary layout that makes you encounter an image every time you open the page are the ones from 1968. Only available in the original version. It can be said that this is a book worthy of being called a monumental work that foreshadows the golden age that will follow.
This book is the first volume of "Daido Moriyama Photo Collection", a series in which Satoru Machiguchi is invited as a designer, printing and clothing are renewed, and the photographer himself participates in the direction of reviving out-of-print works. This is the definitive edition series that recreates early masterpieces with the same image size as the first edition, reborn with triple-tone printing. The material aspect is also substantial.
