Takuma Nakahira: Degree Zero—Yokohama
An exhibition catalogue produced for Takuma Nakahira's first solo exhibition at an art museum, "Degree Zero─Yokohama," which was held at the Yokohama Museum of Art from October 4 to December 7, 2003, and then toured the Naha Citizen's Gallery.
In 1977, Nakahira collapsed in Zushi and lost some of his memory and language abilities. It made me feel like I had reached the stage. For Nakahira, Yokohama was the "origin" of his return as a photographer, and it is still the place where he takes the most photographs on a daily basis. In addition to his latest work, the debut work "For the Word to Come" (1970), the work shot in Paris in 1971, and the mid-1960s, when Nakahira started his career as a photographer, are included.
"I believe that photography is neither a creation nor a memory, but a document. The act of photography is always concrete, not abstract. Here is the reality that I encountered through the medium of the camera, instead of trying to make it difficult by conceptualizing it." ─ Takuma Nakahira
