Here and Elsewhere by Irene Kopelman
A collection of works by Argentinian artist Irene Kopelman.
"Here and Elsewhere" is a project that combines a series of drawings depicting the shapes of rocks with full-scale replicas of "concretion," spherical blocks of rock that are also called natural cement. In 2018-2019, Kopelman made two field trips to Utah, USA, to investigate the otherworldly features of concretion. Through crayon drawings and handcrafted ceramic sculptures, Kopelman's work demonstrates how geological sites can be mapped and painted, and how the creation of the work itself can be a way of thinking about geological processes and the design of nature. At the same time, it expresses the natural phenomenon itself, where concretions change and new shapes and patterns are created.
