KARMA by Óscar Monzón
A collection of works by Spanish photographer Óscar Monzón.
From 2009 to 2013, Monzon launched a large-scale project on the relationship between drivers and cars in Madrid. Most of these photos in this book are unedited and secretly taken so that the drivers don't notice. Sociologist Luc Boltanski argues that the car, the only object that can completely absorb itself and be manipulated from the inside at will, is most effective at creating a private space within a public space. Enabling a private experience was discussed using the term "Body Car". As if to challenge this idea, Monzon created a series that violates enclosed spaces, captures landscapes with flash, and ignores the privacy of car drivers.
Winner of the 2013 Paris Photo Aperture First book award.
