A collection of works by Norwegian photographer Line Bøhmer Løkken.
"I regularly explored this red-brick fortress, whose tall towers seemed to cover and guard a secret plaza. I don't intend to claim that I felt a familiarity with that place like a 'friend', but perhaps it was a relationship like an 'acquaintance'.Familiar faces and strangers come and go. And, like any outdoor space, it can be busy or quiet depending on the weather.
I know the place inside and out. It's because I entered the place, peering with one eye as if I was running a fine-toothed comb through my hair. Ultimately, I wanted to feel like I belonged at least a little bit to the place, so I shot with the desire to understand rather than reveal something. Despite this, I don't think we were able to understand each other very well. The place wanted to keep a secret, and I couldn't get close enough to it on my own.
This place, like all human activities, changes its appearance according to situations and chance encounters. Like a slow-motion movie, these events pass silently before you know it. It is impossible from the end to keep it. The fate of Toyen Centrum is still unknown, but rumors of renovations have been heard. Exactly what and why it will be removed remains unknown. -Line Bøhmer Løkken
