Spirit Is A Bone by Adam Broomberg & Oliver Chanarin
A collection of works by London-based artist duo Adam Broomberg & Oliver Chanarin.
This series of portraits of Ekaterina Samtsevich, a member of the Russian feminist punk rock group "Pussy Riot", and Muscovites, was created by the Russian government for security and border control in Moscow. It is drawn by the latest face recognition system developed in The important point about this facial recognition system camera is that it is designed to shoot portraits without the consent of the subject. Generate a frontal photo of the person from superficially looking at the camera, even if the person is not aware that the person is there. The system was devised for facial recognition in crowded public places such as subways, stadiums, concert halls, and for taking pictures of people who otherwise would normally refuse to be photographed. The artist classifies this group of portraits in contemporary Russia by classifying a series of portrait casts according to their occupations, following August Sander's important work "Citizens of the Twentieth Century". However, despite the state-of-the-art technology, these portraits are of very low resolution and partially decomposed, meaning how accurately the camera recognizes each part of the face and transforms it into 3D. The goal is set as to whether it can be turned into a character, and it is also proof that it does not have the ability to capture individual characters like Xander.
