The Absence Of Mark Manders, Bonnefanten by Mark Manders
A collection of works by Dutch artist Mark Manders.
This book was published as an exhibition catalog for "The Absence Of Mark Manders," a major retrospective exhibition held at the Bonnefanten Museum in Maastricht, located in the southeastern part of the Netherlands. Each exhibition room is regarded as a ``self-portrait as a building'' that the artist is currently working on. The work is "left behind" by the artist, and the visitor proceeds through three areas: the living room, the museum, and the studio. According to Manders, all of these works are interchangeable and "can be used in different combinations, like words in a sentence."
The works are beautifully printed on calming matte paper, and since they are mainly illustrated, this book is also recommended for those who want to enjoy the works themselves. Also includes an essay by curator Douglas Fogle that highlights the role of language in Manders' work.
