Emmanuel Honorato Vázquez by Emmanuel Honorato Vázquez
A collection of works by Ecuadorian photographer Emmanuel Honorato Vázquez.
Since his death in 1924 at the young age of 31, Wafkis's works have remained dormant without ever seeing the light of day. His discoveries and collections now rank him among the most important photographers in the history of Ecuadorian photography. The importance of Wahkis's photographs is not limited to the fact that they are important records of Ecuadorian society, which was advancing toward modernization at the time. There is a dual nature that it was. The period from the late 19th century to the early 20th century in which he lived was a turning point in the history of photography from the pictorialism (picture-like photography) movement that pursued the artistry of photography to straight photography that denied it. This book is a book that allows us to trace the trajectory of an artist who lived in such a turbulent era and pursued the possibilities and essence of photographic expression.
