(Signed) The Eyes That Fix You in a Formulated Phrase by Mariken Kramer
*Restocked
A collection of works by Oslo-based artist Mariken Kramer.
In this work, Krame uses slides taken by her father around the 1970s as a reflection of her own record, memory, and life. As an anthropologist, as a man with a family, and as an amateur photographer, various photographs of him taking pictures of his surroundings were selected. Her daughter, Mariken Krame, is a recurring motif in the book, allowing the reader to be photographed in various countries where she was born and has lived with her father, Norway, Bangladesh, South Africa and her travels. You can see the photos.
Krame sees our self-awareness as arising from the constant conflict between the judgment of others and the act of telling one's own story. So Kurame combined not only a photograph of his father, but also a still life photograph of his childhood toys that were kept in a cardboard box in the attic of his house, and an essay written reminiscing about those days. This suggests that fiction, like self-awareness, functions as an act of interpretation.
